Before Moving Day: Kids
Give kids a heads-up well before the move, and where possible, let them pack a box of their own favorite items so they feel some control over the process. For younger kids, arranging for a friend or family member to watch them on moving day itself often reduces stress for everyone.
Before Moving Day: Pets
Update microchip and ID tag information with your new address before the move, not after. If your pet is anxious around strangers or activity, book a pet sitter or a quiet room away from the moving crew for the day, rather than trying to manage them amid the chaos.
On Moving Day
Keep a 'just in case' bag with essentials — snacks, a favorite toy, pet food and water, leashes — separate from the boxes going on the truck. For South Florida's heat, never leave pets in a parked car, even briefly, during the move.
Settling Into the New Place
Unpack kids' and pets' spaces first when possible — a familiar bed, toys, or bowl in place early helps everyone adjust faster than staring at a wall of unopened boxes for days.
